I have been asked by several writers what are nickname is. Mainly because they want to avoid redundancy by writing "Louisville City FC..." over and over. I noticed Saint Louis FC has a couple of nicknames, but it isn't always necessary to have one.
If we don't have one I can see journalist going with "the Purples" With all due respect to Bowling Green High School, I would like it to be something a little better, if we're going with a nickname.
Purple is the color of royalty, so Monarchs is one of the first that popped into my head, but just wanted to get all of your thoughts since it would ultimately need to come from the biggest fans.

What's the Elsie thing that I keep seeing? I thought that was the nickname but i was unsure what it meant or where it came from. And now i'm unsure that that is even the nickname. Monarchs is the nickname of Salt Lake's USL side Real Monarchs.

WOW! Totally forgot about Real. I liked ELSIE. not sure if that was created by Martin French, but I have seen him use it. I would love for that to be a nickname

"Citizens" or "Villagers" makes sense.
We are "City" after all. Ville means City in french.

I could have sworn I had read something last summer where it said that the nickname was the "Fighting Bourbons". Anyone know what I might be thinking of?

Some guy posted a picture of his LCFC magnet on /r/mls with the caption "Picked up my Louisville City FC Magnet! Excited for April! Let's Go Fighting Bourbons!" I'd much rather prefer Elsie or City.

So I like "Elsie" just because it's written like you say it, but whenever I hear it or see it I think of the cow, Elsie. Haha
Is "Purple Villains" too easy?

I like the idea behind Elsie, but I'd turn it and go with Lousi (pronounced Lucy). It makes it sound more like a name than just saying the 2 letters.

I'd rather we not call our team Lousy. Also not a big fan of Elsie... Bourbon Boys? Here's a list of tweets when we asked about this a while back.

With a strong german influence in the city, we could try a german nickname as well for something different. As a Dortmund (die Schwartzgelben) fan, i like combining the team's colors, we could be die Lilaweiss (Dee LEE-lah-vice) or die Lilajungs (Dee LEE-lah-youngs) being the purple-whites and purple boys respectively

I vote for a race horse named "Elsie". Kids love animals. I personally don't need a mascot. But for those who like them, a race horse.

NO MASCOTS!!! Unless it's a moonshiner wearing only a barrel.
Elsie just sounds... Feminine to me.

How about Lou City?

Elsie is the way to go. We were talking to an older fan at the last game who floated "the shiners". The reasoning being that this would both reference Moonshiners as well as our link to Orlando (who use the sun as part of their lion logo). It's an interesting idea. We like that it's relevant and thoughtful. Citizens does not do it for us.
As for it sounding too "feminine", who cares? We're total badasses. Is wearing purple too feminine? No, because we're all adults.

Why not just the "Barrels"?

I like Steve's idea. Lou City is clean and catchy.
