The madness has started...
If you haven't been following, you won't know that in a mad appeasement effort (especially since many of the big teams have been relegated for a season in recent years), the AFA went crazy and decided to go for an unprecedented 30 team league, with everyone playing everyone else once, and local rival getting a second game against each other. It had been the SA standard of an Apertura and Clausura (though they called them the Inicial and Final), but now it's a single season, 30 rounds long, so grievances about unbalanced US systems pale somewhat.
It kicked off on Friday with wins for Velez Sarsfield and Rosario Central. Boca fans have to wait until Sunday, but the tie of the round in terms of tradition is probably Newells hosting Independiente. Also interesting is Crucero del Norte playing Tigre. Crucero were founded in 1989, and as recently as 2009 they had yet to get any further than the 4th tier - this is their first home game at the top level...
