Since the name of the team is Louisville City Football Club, shouldn't the shield logo start having the FC added somewhere?

Agreed. I think the current shield is only temporary though. If the team starts making $ or moves to the MLS, then I'm sure we'll see a redesign of some sort. (i.e. Orlando's Lion).
It's just hard to get excited about office buildings on a crest. We might like it since we recognize our town, but its not the best brand identity.
A pegasus would make a killer mascot/crest. We're the derby city right? Wasn't the pegasus the greatest (sorta) horse ever? I'm pretty sure he did all sorts of heroic stuff...
The US men's supporters group in town has a crest w/ a "peg" on it...actually pretty sweet.

Agree with all of this. A rebranding for MLS would likely be a must. Especially since we share the same colors with Orlando City.

This is one issue I have with the crest, any random passerby who sees the crest would just think (in my mind at least) Oh that's the logo of the city of Louisville and might not connect it with the team.

With rebranding a UNIQUE symbol should be chosen. Using a symbol that references other local sports (horses, cardinals), or competing city symbols (fleur-de-lis/St Louis), etc, is problematic.
What else do we have that can be reduced to a simple, recognizable, and defining symbol? Louisville skyline? Falls of the Ohio? Belle of Louisville? State animal or plant? The Bourbon industry is certainly a unique industry for Louisville. What else do we have?

Problem is, while it's a great place, Louisville is known for bourbon and horses... Not many outsiders could recognize the skyline, the Belle, or the Falls (and the Falls would be difficult to render IMO).
Maybe take a hint from the KY State Quarter and feature My Old Kentucky Home?
