Is there any reason we have to keep the Purple and "City" then...?
Our city flag is royal blue and gold. Purple is Orlando's color...Won't there USL team use it?
Coopers is a unique name. Like Timbers or Sounders it actually fits our region very well. We inherited "City" from Orlando and the Cooper logo looks sweet. Why not switch?

I hope we keep "City," at least, I love it and we'll have spend a full season making it part of our brand identity. I'll happily see the back of purple though.

I think we keep "City" no matter what. I do like the idea above of switching to some form of a Navy and Gold shirt and patch to reflect the colors and design of the old Louisville civic flag. Big fan of that idea.

Royal Blue and Gold is a no brainer... They're Louisville's civic colors and a timeless combo. Purple is what Orlando City 2 is going to wear in the USL and for us to keep the scheme would be unoriginal and more than a little weird...[Our Friendly w/ Orlando this August is going to be awfully confusing]... Whether we're "Louisville City" or the "Louisville Coopers" I think we'll be fine. "Ville" does mean city in french so our current name is a bit silly... but thankfully most of the country doesn't speak french.

I love the idea behind wearing our city's colors, but is it really a good idea for the club to up and rebrand itself so early in its existence? It seems a little early to hit a reset button, especially with them really still establishing themselves.

I think we should keep the purple until and if we make the jump to MLS. And even then I would hate for the purple to be taken away. We can use the gold in our crest and cheers on the actual uniform for a change. This would also give us an opportunity to adopt a sash, or stripes of some sort. #PurpleJerseyGoldPinstripes

If a rebrand happens, then it should be after this season and not five years from now when we'll be even more attached to our look. The Orlando City break has occurred so this is a logical time to discuss it.
Do you really think the city and fans would be confused if we wear blue and gold or become the Louisville Coopers FC? There's only one soccer team in town. They play at slugger... I give our community the benefit of the doubt on this one.

We didn't get purple because it's Orlando's color. Purple was chosen because if you mix red and blue you get purple. It was chosen as a sort of compromise to appeal to both UK and UL fans so the team didn't start by alienating half of the city and potential fan base. And while i like the city's colors of navy blue and gold, red and blue are the two most common kit colors in all of sports while purple may soon be no longer unique to just us in the USL it will still be way less common then blue would be. I'm all for a kit redesign to make our uni's have something more unique but totally against the team changing it's name and color.

Colors should be navy and gold. Not because it's the colors of the Coopers, but because The Cooopers have the colors of the city. Plus, navy and gold are pretty awesome.

I don't think the club needs to change colors. Purple is a wholly unique color, not just in the league, but in the world. If anything, make the kits distinguishable from the others. Orlando City 2 will most likely carry over their 1st team uniforms with slight modifications if any at all. I also think that the "City" part of the team name really establishes the identity of our community.
Bear in mind that the Derby City Rovers, our PDL team, is also navy blue and gold.
Third kit idea???

That "red plus blue" reasoning was absurd when I first heard it and it's just as ridiculous now. What the devil do UofL and UK have to do with anything? I love the team and I'm thrilled to have it here in town but we got stuck with some utterly ridiculous trappings right out of the gate. A nonsensical purple color scheme that has nothing to do with this city and a team name that for reasons I can't understand got "City" tacked on the end of it because I guess all American soccer teams need some European trappings in order to lend them credibility. Were we afraid people would think the team was for the Louisville that wasn't a city? The reasoning behind all this was ludicrous and I suppose the consequence of the amateurish way it was all thrown together last year. I'm fine with the result but I'm not going to pretend it was some master stroke of civic planning rather than a matter of quick convenience for the club to retain all the colors and trappings of the former team in Orlando rather than develop something new. In the end, we've chosen the name and we've chosen the name and we've chosen color and I don't really see the point in going through a whole rebranding effort one year into this venture.

Agreed 100% on the color argument. The color purple was chosen because we inherited Orlando's brand. I know the club tried to spin a mix of U of L/UK angle but c'mon..... we don't live on Gullible Blvd. do we?
Further, beleive it or not there are people in this city who did not attend either university. This region's obsession with "amateur" college athletics is charming... but at the same time borderline unhealthy. LCFC is an independent club and deserves its own identity that reflects our entire city. Navy and Gold would be a move in the right direction...
The "city" vs. "nickname" argument has a lot more merit I think... "City" is kind of generic but we have done a good job of making it our own (mainly because we're awesome)... that said the MLS & USL is full of clubs who've taken seemingly silly nicknames like "Timbers, Battery, Kickers, Sounders" and made a great team identity out of it....I think two united joined MLS this year (Atlanta and Minnesota) so this Euro-theme of naming is growing tiresome.
In a quirky american soccer landscape where people love nicknames...maybe Coopers would be pretty good way to go. But City is fine too. Anyway fun ideas to kick around.

Put away the paint buckets and new kits... Re-branding so soon is a very bad idea, no matter how you spin it. All the merchandise purchased no longer has a place and everyone's just starting to get into the groove. Matches will be filled with both old and new colors people will feel out of place and its just not a grand idea in the long run. Purple isn't our first choice but we definitely don't need to drop it so fast. Let the team be here a while let the City have a season or two. Without Orlando we now have room to grow and maybe within the next decade or so, build up an MLS team. I don't know... I'm a dreamer, but, I see a lot of potential here and we should treat this like the infant it is and let it grow.
